Event Information

Please join us for Virginia's first horse track 5k race. The race starts in front of Colonial Downs and finishes on the track with hundreds of spectators and a televised last half mile on the track jumbotron and closed circuit television.

There are two optional packages to register for this race.

Picnic on the Turn option ($20 early registration, $30 after 07/01)

Includes:

  • portable restrooms
  • a disc jockey to provide music!
  • Kids 12 and under FREE!

Party on the Green Option ($40 early registration, $50 after 07/01)

Includes:

  • Derby Day Admission, Race Program & Tipsheet
  • Deluxe Barbecue Lunch
  • 3 Beer/Wine/Soft-Drink Tickets
  • Live Music on stage all afternoon
  • Come back Admission Pass
  • Access to grandstands and picnic on the turn

Additional tickets available for family members.

Course consists of pavement, short section of gravel/stone & dirt track

  • Packet pickup occurs 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM in front of Colonial Downs. Race packets, chips and tickets to the party on the green will be handed out at that time.
  • Virginia Derby gym bag to registered runners
  • Colonial Downs opens at 9:00 AM with Derby Day admission policy in effect – suggest all runners family and friends purchase $5 Picnic on the Turn tickets (in advance or day of). This will allow them access to the grandstand/finish line area for the 5K and to the Picnic on the Turn area!
  • Race starts at 9:30 AM
  • Race will take place rain or shine
  • No spikes allowed
  • Stay to the right of the cones at all times
  • Race course is NOT wheelchair accessible
  • Age Group Awards ceremony at 10:30 AM
  • Photo ID required for party

First 3 overall male and female winners will receive awards. Age group awards will be handed out to top 3 male & female in each age group: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65 and over.

The race reserves the right to combine age groups based on participation numbers.
